An Interview

David Owen – a new record after the family tragedy

Blues Van – Interview  * – 2022

David Owen began his musical career in the 1980s. The Canadian guitarist-singer, in addition to starring in her own concerts, has had the opportunity to introduce herself in front of Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland, Big Bill Morganfield and Sue Foley, among others. Bruce Iglauer, owner of Alligator Records, also praised his 2015 album Livin ’Life.

Owen’s music career was interrupted in the summer of 2019 when police showed up at his door to tell him his wife, the mother of three children, Suzana, had died in a shipwreck. It took a couple of months for him to continue playing music. His new album, Oh Suzana Blues, was released on April 15th. The title track of the album and Stella Marie is specifically about the death of his wife. “Oh Suzana, our time is running out so fast, I wish I could have slowed it down,” David sings. The producer was the multi-award winning Colin Linden, who also starred on the album alongside Dominic Davies and Fats Kaplin.
